Transposing Barriers: Health, Citizenship, and STD/HIV Prevention NetworkName: Transposing Barriers: Health, Citizenship and STD/HIV Prevention Network Donor: Brazilian AIDS Program and UNODC This project was in response to the RFA divulged by the Brazilian STD/Aids Program of Ministry of Health directed at non-governmental organizations NGOs) working with STD/HIV/AIDS prevention for vulnerable population. Pact aimed to promote health care and STD/HIV prevention among transvestite and transsexual population in the five Brazilian regions, identifying and addressing several cross themes such as human rights, positive prevention, HIV diagnosis and advocacy for public polices, stigma and discrimination reduction, among others. The project’s general objective was to expand coverage and qualify actions of health promotion and human rights and prevention of STD/HIV facing transvestites and transsexuals, including those living with HIV/AIDS. For that, three strategic objectives were identified: · Strengthen and improve a network of partner NGOs; · Promote actions and positive visibility of transvestites and transsexuals regarding Health governmental spheres; · Strengthen and improve the educational activities in Health promotion and prevention of STD/HIV and Hepatitis. The project's implementation was aligned to the Brazilian Ministry of Health’s 2007 National Plan to Combat the AIDS Epidemic and STDs among Gays, MSM and Transvestites and the National Plan to Combat the Feminization of AIDS and other STDs. Pact worked in partnership with NGOs in the five Brazilian regions, including the State and Municipal AIDS Programs, to upgrade current activities for the target population as well as strengthening and amplifying the existing network of transvestite social movements that work on HIV prevention and human rights promotion.
