BRIDGE IIName: Bridge II
Duration: September 2009 - February 14, 2014
Donor: JHU/ USAID
In September 2009, Pact signed a sub-agreement with the Center for Communication Programs (CCP) of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) to partner in implementing the BRIDGE II project, the second phase of a strategic, evidence-based communication HIV prevention project intended to help reduce the incidence of HIV among the general population. Particular emphasis is placed on reducing the number of concurrent sexual partners. The project, which is funded by PEPFAR through USAID, equips partner organizations to use proven tools, messages, and approaches on HIV prevention. One such example is the Hope Kit developed under the first BRIDGE project. Pact contributes directly to the following BRIDGE II project objectives:
· Objective 2: Communities mobilized to adopt social norms, attitudes and values that reduce vulnerability to HIV
· Objective 3: HIV prevention interventions strategically linked with other HIV and health services
Pact contributes to objective 2 by disseminating BRIDGE’s tools and methodologies among Pact’s network of HIV/AIDS service providers, which was established through Pact’s REACH project. Partners in turn integrate BRIDGE HIV prevention methodologies and tools into their ongoing prevention programming. Pact provides technical support and capacity building services to expand BRIDGE partners’ abilities to implement these tools and the corresponding behavior change communication strategies.
In addition, Pact contributes to objective 3 – strengthening referral networks and linking HIV prevention activities to other health services – by applying its Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) methodology which helps to determine patterns of interaction among network members and to track the collaborations among partners.
By contributing to objectives 2 and 3, the project also contributes indirectly to objectives 1 and 4 of the project:
· Objective 1: Individual perception of HIV risk and self-efficacy to prevent HIV infection strengthened
· Objective 4: Malawian institutions supported to lead the national response to HIV prevention and to harmonize high quality HIV prevention services at scale
