Director of Knowledge Management and Training

Position Summary
The Director of Knowledge Management and Training will serve as an in-house resource for advising sector leaders and community of practice facilitators on developing effective training face-to-face and distance learning curricula, making effective use of the intranet and other web-based collaboration mechanisms, and building dynamic virtual networks that can be sustained over time. The Director of Knowledge Management and Training will combine strong adult learning credentials with good knowledge management and IT skills. S/he will also bring an understanding of Pact’s core capacities, particularly Organizational Development and Network Strengthening, as well as one or more of Pact’s Sector areas: HIV/AIDS, Democracy and Governance, Natural Resource Management, Livelihoods, and Peace-building.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Support Communities of Practice
- Provide people responsible for facilitating a community of practice (COP) with training and technical assistance that will promote sustained participation in Pact’s Communities of Practice
- Support COP facilitators in developing agendas and materials for their annual meetings, in order to maximize benefits to Pact institutionally, while satisfying the needs and interests of COP members. Develops facilitators’ professional skills through coaching, guidance and co-facilitation.
Assist in the Development and Delivery of a Standard set of Core Training Modules
- Assist sector and core competency technical leads on developing standard Pact training curricula and manuals for face-to-face learning
- Develop a certification system for qualifying Pact staff as trainers in one of our Core Training Modules
- Train and certify Pact staff in participatory facilitation techniques
- Facilitate and co-facilitate Training of Trainers for Pact staff in the core training modules
Take a lead in ensuring that Pact makes effective use of its Intranet and other web-based media for training, information sharing
- Ensure that Pact has a highly functional intranet site that meets the needs of its staff globally and is continuously used and up-to-date.
- Assist sector and core competency technical leads to develop distance learning training curricula that enable Pact staff anywhere in the world to complete on-line training modules
- Inform and train Pact staff in ways to use interactive web-based tools to enhance communities of practice, distance learning, and information sharing.
- Assist Pact at all levels in documenting and sharing our best practices
- Assist Communities of Practice to develop a system for selecting best practice materials for documentation
- Train Pact staff in documentation skills
- Assist in the selection and management of consultants to help in producing professional best practice documents
Education and Experience Requirements Required
- Masters in Education or other relevant degree
- 7 – 10 years experience in international development, with at least three years’ overseas experience.
- 5 – 7 year hand’s on experience in adult education
- Excellent IT skills and intimate knowledge of web-based knowledge management and distance learning software
- Strong participatory training and facilitation skills
- Fluency in a language in addition to English
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Good people skills and ability to relate to people from different backgrounds
- Ability to travel internationally at least 25 percent of the time.
Preferred
- Experience working in one or more of Pact’s Sector areas: HIV, DG, NRM, Livelihoods, and Peacebuilding
- Experience working in one or more of Pact’s Core Competency areas: Organizational Development, Network Strengthening, Advocacy, Knowledge Management, and Grant Making
