Vice President, Corporate Engagement

Position Summary
The vice president, corporate engagement, is the leader of Pact’s Corporate Community Engagement Practice. Corporate Community Engagement is a strategic priority of Pact, with significant Board-level oversight. The vice president is responsible for furthering Pact’s long-term goal of being a leader in the field of corporate engagement and will play an essential role in developing new and innovative approaches to engage with socially responsible corporations to maximize development impact.

The vice president contributes to this goal through management and stewardship of the CCE Practice. The VP develops strategy and guides implementation. The VP ensures that Pact’s engagement is consistent with its values and ethics, and manages the risks and opportunities associated with this work. The VP manages and strengthens current partnerships and has the opportunity to position Pact as a thought-leader in this field, through proactive communication and outreach. The VP will direct Pact’s core CCE team, build a team with the necessary skill sets and experience to respond and manage the opportunities that are developed and promote institutional learning and integration of CCE in Pact development programming across regions and sectors.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Strategy Implementation
  • Directs CCE strategic planning and policy making process through collaboration with stakeholders within and outside of Pact.
  • Designs and implements annual CCE work plans, priorities and activities, consistent with Pact’s strategic plan and organizational priorities.
  • Coordinates with field staff, regional offices, platform areas, and other teams to ensure collaboration in achieving CCE goals and objectives.
  • Manages Pact CCE budget, ensuring that allocation of financial resources support goals and objectives and are reasonable, allowable, and allocable and reported in accordance with Pact financial protocol.
  • Builds, strengthens and manages Pact’s core CCE team, and team of global CCE practitioners to achieve the CCE vision and objectives.

Stewardship & Accountability
  • Serves as a steward of Pact’s CCE work, guiding and overseeing development and implementation of risk management strategies.
    • Develops and refines tools to facilitate assessment, monitoring, reporting, and communication of opportunities and risk. Effective stewardship in this area will enhance Pact’s strategic decision-making capabilities and enable Pact to responsibly pursue its mission with and "eyes wide open" approach.
    • Provides risk assessments and progress reports to Pact President and CEO.
    • Bi-annually communicates to Pact Board of Directors progress on CCE practice.
  • Manages headquarters-level relationships with existing corporate partners.
    • Develops proactive communications strategies to promote transparency and accountability with stakeholders in Pact’s CCE work.
    • Ensures that Pact’s corporate relationships are anchored in and consistent with Pact’s mission and vision and grounded in Pact’s values and ethics.
    • Provides strong and consistent communication with corporate partners.
Partnership & Opportunity Development
  • Supports Pact’s development of strategic partnerships and thought-leadership by:
    • Coordinating production of technical papers and publications;
    • Communicating Pact’s approaches and successes to relevant audiences, including donors, policy makers, civil society and development practitioners, through print and electronic media, and public events;
    • Identifying relevant domestic and international fora and developing a communication strategy that enables Pact to engage in learning, sharing, knowledge dissemination and thought leadership activities in them; and
    • Developing strategic partnerships and forging relationships with stakeholders that lead to advocacy, thought leadership, and increased programmatic impact, preferably on a regional or global scale.
  • Supports Pact's funding diversification by:
    • Developing relationships that lead to fundraising and/or program implementation opportunities with corporate entities;
    • Coordinating with Pact’s New Business Development Team in the creation of capture strategies and other fundraising opportunities; and
    • Providing technical inputs to proposals and other new business opportunities.

Technical Assistance & Institutional Learning
  • Facilitates and guides the development of CCE-related tools, approaches and methodologies, in particular as it relates to:
    • opportunity analysis and scoping;
    • partnership development; proposal development; and
    • corporate engagement program implementation.
  • Organizes learning activities to strengthen Pact’s institutional CCE capacity and integrate CCE-specific tools with other approaches and methodologies available in Pact (e.g. organizational development, advocacy, community participation techniques and other participatory processes).
  • Develops case studies and methodologies.
  • Supports the documentation and preparation of publications on Pact’s methodologies and results that can inform the Pact community including posting to Pact’s website for broader outreach.
  • Provides technical assistance to Pact field programs.
  • Promotes collaboration with other technical teams and programs to facilitate the mainstreaming of CCE approaches in Pact’s programming across regions and sectors.
Qualifications
  • Deep understanding of current trends and themes in corporate engagement.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build and manage relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to represent Pact in relevant national and international fora.
  • Experience living overseas.
  • English fluency; knowledge of French and/or Spanish desirable.
  • Ability to travel quarterly.
  • Knowledge of international norms and standards, and voluntary codes of conduct related to business, human rights and the environment.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • 15 years of increasing responsibility in international development and/or corporate community engagement/corporate social responsibility.
  • Graduate degree in business, law or other relevant field desired.
  • Combination of experience in international development and in corporate responsibility/affairs or community relations within the private sector or corporate foundation desired.
  • Experience working with the extractive industries highly valuable. Experience with additional sectors (i.e., financial, manufacturing, pharmaceutical) valuable.
  • Demonstrable project management and/or practice area development experience.
  • Experience in risk assessment and management, and communication.
