NELA provides counseling and testing, home-based care and capacity building support for HIV/AIDS infected and affected individuals in Oyo State. The project trains volunteer health workers in basic home-based care and counseling services to ensure community access to basic information on HIV prevention, care and support. NELA also works closely with PLAN, a PLHIV association, to support leadership development of PLAN's members and staff through advocacy, financial and project management training. Together, NELA and PLAN co-implement a focused communication campaign (that includes advocacy) to encourage people living with HIV to reduce their risk for co-infection with other STDS, raise awareness about the roles PLHIV can play in HIV/STI prevention, care and support, and reduce stigma and discrimination in the public health sector. The aim of this project is to help build PLHIV coping strategies to help them live positively with HIV, while benefiting from expanded services.
