Strengthening Civic Education in Primary Schools in Ethiopia (SCEPS)Duration: September 2009 - September 2014 Donor: USAID This project works to contribute toward improving access to and quality of primary education and adult functional literacy. Pact seeks to enable 500 schools across nine regions nine regions and two city administrations of Ethiopia to engage as citizens of the future, so that these children create vibrant student communities that develop self-esteem; promote peace, tolerance, respect, equality, justice and dignity. The project engages children in community service activities, strengthens civic awareness and knowledge in student bodies, and promotes their exercise of their civic responsibilities and thereby become actively engaged in the overall teaching and learning process.
Partners The Government of Ethiopia AfricaPact is experiencing comprehensive growth in Africa. New initiatives in Malawi and Namibia complement ongoing programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Throughout Africa, as elsewhere, building sustainable organizational and institutional capacity is central to Pact’s efforts.Program emphases span diverse development issues fundamental to national development and the promotion of participatory, transparent and accountable practices at all levels of society. Sectoral issues include livelihoods , nonformal education, peace building, literacy, village banking, care of orphans and abandoned children, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, democracy and human rights, information knowledge management, and natural resource management.
