We’re so glad that you’ll be joining us for Pact’s HIV/AIDS Capacity Building Summit. We have prepared points of guidance that we hope will assist you with your stay.
This packet includes information on:
1. Before You Travel
a. Weather and wardrobe
b. Foreign Currency Exchange
c. Transportation around Washington
2. Addresses/Contact Information and How to Get Around
a. Carlyle Suites Hotel
b. Summit Venue
3. General Washington, D.C. Information
a - Weather and Wardrobe:
· November is autumn in Washington, D.C., so the days are cool and short. The average high temperature in November is: 14.5 degrees Celsius (58 degrees Fahrenheit). The average low temperature in November is: 2 degrees Celsius (36 degrees Fahrenheit). The average rainfall is 8.43 cm (3.32 inches).
· We recommend bringing a warm coat and an umbrella! Though it is unlikely you will need them, gloves, scarves or hats may also be useful in the morning or evenings if the weather is unseasonably cold.
· Dress for the summit will be relaxed business attire.
b - Foreign Currency Exchange:
There should be currency exchanges in the airport of first entry into the U.S. where you will clear customs. Once you leave the airport, it will not be easy to find foreign currency exchange outlets though you can, of course, always change money at any bank. There are many ATMs throughout the city if you have a debit card.
c - Transportation around Washington:
We recommend purchasing a weekly Metro fare card for you to use during your stay. This card will allow you unlimited metro trips but only for fares within a limited radius. The cost of the card is US$26.40. This will allow you to travel to and from the summit and to nearby shopping. Metro maps are available at most stations.
