![]() ![]() CSL Rule of Law: Labor Justice Advocacy in the CAFTA-DR Signatory Countries Programs CSL Rule of Law: In the News Ombudsman Office in Costa Rica Thanks Pact Ombudsman Report to Costa Rican Congress Dominican RepublicPact in the Dominican Republic partners with the Ministry of Labor to increase access to legal assistance on a national level. The Ministry of labor provides legal representation to employers and workers that do not have the financial resources to hire a personal lawyer to represent them. Pact coordinates trainings with the National Judicial College to train lawyers within the Ministry on Constitutional Principles, the Organization of Labor Courts, Labor Law, Special Procedures, and Judgment, Referral and Implementation. During June, the Ministry of Labor uploaded to its website the Administrative Guidelines for the provision of legal assistance services and the Labor Procedures Guide, publications elaborated under the Program. The documents are available at the following address: http://www.omlad.gob.do/DerechosLaborales.aspx Pact has also begun working with the National Judicial School “Escuela Nacional de Judicatura” to train lawyers and public defenders on providing adequate defense for workers seeking legal assistance. On Thursday April 28th, the National Judicial School of the Dominican Republic concluded the training course for 38 lawyers of the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Labor that aims at strengthening their skills and legal knowledge for an improved defense of workers. Pact has also begun partnership with the Center for Education and Legal Assistance (CEAJURI). The organization targets workers in the sugarcane and construction industries, and conducts forums, seminars and awareness campaigns, as well as provides free legal services. CEAJURI has increased the knowledge of union members regarding labor law and commercial courts. Pact support has of the organization has led to an increased demand regarding guidance, counseling and legal support, both nationally, and among the Haitian immigrant population.
