Where We Work

EBT Prev

Name: Evidence Based Targeted HIV Prevention Project (EBT- Prev. Project)
Duration: March 1, 2009 - February 28, 2014
Donor: PSI/ USAID

The goal of the EBT - Prev. project is to reduce the incidence of HIV in Malawi by increasing the adoption of safer sexual behaviors among populations with high-risk behaviors. The project ensures that the scope, quality, targeting and impact of prevention activities implemented by existing Pact local partners are enhanced, while new partnerships are identified and built in a cost-effective way that takes full advantage of available economies of scale. Games and exercises are used to get a group of people playing together in a safe space, to energize that space, and facilitate honest discussions. Through games, people interact in a different way, preparing them as the work gets deeper and more focused on HIV/AIDS prevention.

Pact’s activities under this award support the following Program Objectives:
Objective 1: Identify, segment and profile priority populations at risk
Objective 2: Deliver integrated behavior change communications (iBCC) programs targeted to high risk populations in priority prevention areas (PPAs)
Objective 3: Distribute and promote condoms for use by the general populations and for high risk groups, and
Objective 4: Enhance the network of existing providers for greater accessibility and service to high risk populations

Pact’s input under the EBT-Prev. project is synergistic in several ways. Pact brings to the EBT-Prev. project capacity building/organizational development expertise, additional HIV prevention technical expertise, an established granting mechanism, and a network of competitively and carefully screened Malawian organizations that are working in a range of HIV/AIDS program areas.

In order to meet the targeted outreach objectives of EBT-Prev., PSI and Pact work with existing Pact partners, but also find new partners in targeted Priority Prevention Areas (PPAs) on a local level. All of Pact’s current and future prevention partners are trained in how to use EBT-Prev. tools and approaches effectively.
