Meeting Livelihoods

Meeting the Livelihood and Support Needs of People Affected by HIV Project

October 2006 - December 2007

Donor: UNOPS

This project sought to mitigate the economic and psychosocial impact that HIV has had on 500 individuals and their families living in Yangon, the capitol of Myanmar. The project built on Pact-Myanmar's two core competencies: strengthening community responses to disease and enabling access to skills. Because few local organizations or community structures exist in Yangon to combat HIV/AIDS, Pact supported individuals and families affected by HIV to build and sustain informal organizations of people affected by HIV. These nascent organizations learned how to design and implement HIV prevention and care programs and creating psychosocial support networks. Pact also empowered communities of individuals and families affected by HIV to develop and manage a community development fund designed to address the economic challenges that face households affected by HIV.
