PLHIV Social Inclusion
Name: PLHIV Social Inclusion Project
Dates: September 2003 - September 2009
Donor: United States Agency for International Development
This program is a continuation of Pact's Condom Social Marketing project in Brazil, a Community REACH Associate Award. Having shifted its programmatic objectives in September 2007, this project is now focused on health promotion, HIV prevention, and strategic support to HIV/AIDS treatment monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities. The goal of the People Living With HIV (PLHIV) Social Inclusion Program is to improve the quality of life of PLHIV in socially vulnerable situations in three Brazilian cities and its activities will support four strategic objectives:
1) To strengthen health promotion and HIV transmission prevention activities;
2) To promote the social inclusion of PLHIV by investing in integrated initiatives with the private sector and civil society;
3) To contribute to the sustainability and institutional strength of CSOs working with PLHIV; and,
4) To increase access to HIV/AIDS information systems implemented by the Brazilian government.
These activities will involve the implementation of pilot projects in São Paulo, Salvador and Brasília, and will require the formation of partnerships with local civil society organizations (CSOs) and private sector actors. In conjunction with these activities, Pact Brasil will support a series of interventions to improve existing data systems, thereby strengthening, expanding and supporting National AIDS Program (NAP) initiatives related to monitoring HIV/AIDS treatment trends and reporting adverse effects of ARV therapies.
