CMM promotes stability along the Sudan-Ethiopia border by directly targeting support for local markets and increased and balanced inter-ethnic trade along the conflict fault lines in the border area. Increased economic opportunities, capacity for marketing and trade, production and storage of goods, and access to capital is expected to reduce economic marginalization of the target communities. CMM is also working to resolve economic disputes with the help of local trade-related organizations. Expected outcomes of the are: increased links between traders and authorities cross border, including dialogue skills; increased capacity of traders to resolve economic disputes and in basic business skills; women and youth entrepreneurs supported in starting up businesses and associations; trade associations and networks established; increased economic activity within target communities; infrastructure for trade in border towns rehabilitated or developed; and instability/conflict decreased along the border trade routes.
