Support to HIV/AIDS Response in Zambia (SHARe)

December 2007 - December 2008

Donor: USAID

Pact in Zambia, under an agreement with John Snow Inc Research and Training Institute (JSI R&T), supported implementation of the USAID-funded Support to HIV/AIDS Response in Zambia (SHARe). Pact's role was to promote HIV/AIDS leadership through women's community-based organizations (CBO) in six constituencies in Zambia, and to serve as a catalyst to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS and improve the quality of life for persons affected by HIV/AIDS.

More specifically, Pact strengthened women organizations’ gender sensitive HIV/AIDS responses and helped to build their capacities in promoting gender in HIV/AIDS prevention. Pact also supported a learning agenda for best practices in community HIV/AIDS and gender advocacy, strengthening the sustainability of Constituency Liaison Committees (CLCs) to continue to advocate for policy change that embraces gender perspectives, and contributing to the National Aids Commission gender-focused HIV/AIDS campaigns.

Pact’s involvement in the SHARe program built on Pact’s achievement under the Pact implemented Accountability through Civil Society Organizations and Watchdog Institutions (AWATCH) program that was funded by USAID between 2004 and 2007. The AWATCH program established 40 Constituency Liaison Committees and encouraged Members of Zambian Parliament to address HIV/AIDS and support women HIV/AIDS organizations.
