Pact is experiencing comprehensive growth in Africa. New initiatives in Malawi and Namibia complement ongoing programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Throughout Africa, as elsewhere, building
sustainable organizational and institutional capacity is central to Pact’s efforts.
Program emphases span diverse development issues fundamental to national development and the promotion of participatory, transparent and accountable practices at all levels of society. Sectoral issues include
livelihoods , nonformal education,
peace building,
literacy,
village banking,
care of orphans and abandoned children,
HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment,
democracy and human rights,
information knowledge management, and
natural resource management.
