Graham Wood

Vice President, Program Advancement


Graham Wood brings more than 20 years of experience as a relief and development professional to his current responsibility for the quality of Pact programs worldwide.

His background encompasses policy and program development, change management, strategic planning and monitoring with extensive experience in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Prior to assuming this role, he was Pact’s Vice President for Africa.

Mr. Wood has focused in the sectors of HIV/AIDS, demobilization, conflict resolution, displacement, governance and formal and informal education. He has lived and worked in Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, Sudan (north and south), Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and the UK. He also has substantial additional experience in Cambodia, Pakistan, Iran, Lebanon and Zimbabwe. In all, he has work experience in more than 30 countries.

He began his career in the education sector in Sudan, including assignments as a lecturer at Khartoum University and Sudan University of Science and Technology. He has worked for a number of NGOs and UN organizations including Care, ACORD, HelpAge International, UNDP and UNICEF as well as with government bodies.

Mr. Wood has worked in grassroots programming and has held four country director positions as well as a head of policy role with an INGO head office. He is a former board member of the Aid Workers Network and a number of local organizations and has served as a Red Cross delegate. He is an observer member of the Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action organization.

He has published on displacement in Cambodia, prevention of HIV in Muslim countries, refugee returns in Sudan and civil military relations in Sudan, Afghanistan and Iraq. In addition, he has written extensively on informal education.

Mr. Wood is fluent in Arabic and Kiswahili.
