WRAPP‘s mission is to empower communities in Southern Sudan to own and benefit from greater access to rural water supply and sanitation infrastructure in a sustainable manner that contributes to improved public health, livelihood opportunities, gender sensitivity and reduction of conflict. It has the following objectives:
1. Capacity-building of civil society through partnerships with community-based organizations (CBOs), establishment and training of water committees, community ownership with training in operation and maintenance, and training of CBOs to carry out environmental impact assessments.
2. Peacebuilding through targeting of high demand and water scarce areas and high returnee areas, supporting peace meeting agreements with tangible water outputs, and mainstreaming conflict resolution in trainings.
3. Livelihoods and economic development by targeting market towns for water points, innovative livelihoods projects related to water, and the establishment of a local drilling sector.
4. Local governance through coordination with local governments for service delivery and participatory selection of site locations.
5. Sanitation, hygiene and health through training water committees in basic hygiene and sanitation with a focus on gender, public health and environmental sanitation.
6. Service delivery through the drilling of boreholes, construction of village water systems, latrine construction, market cleanup, rehabilitation of defunct water sources and environmental impact assessments.
Pact Sudan implements its activities through close partnership with private sector drillers and contractors, INGOs, government, community based organizations and the civil society to provide safe and clean water for the people of Sudan. Current funding comes from USAID-Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, Department of State-Office of Population Refugees and Migration, Government of Southern Sudan-Multi Donor Trust Fund, and USAID through a partnership with Winrock.
