Y-CHOICES

Youth and Children with Health Options Involving Community Engagement Strategies (Y-CHOICES)

Name: Youth and Children with Health Options Involving Community Engagement Strategies (Y-CHOICES)
Duration: September 2004 - September 2009
Donor: USAID

Y-CHOICES, funded under the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), uses an innovative approach to behavior change and focuses on community involvement in helping youth and children make informed choices about behaviors that affect their health. Y-CHOICES's goal is to decrease the number of new HIV infections by promoting decreased sexual activity through communities, families, and youth; by scaling up and expanding community-focused programs for communication; and by improving and strengthening the environment for family dialogue on social issues critical to HIV prevention. The Y-CHOICES program in Zambia focuses on program interventions in 38 districts and works with 66 local partner organizations, 40% of which are faith-based organizations, to develop their organizational, managerial, institutional and technical capacities in carrying out youth training, education and behavior change programs focused on abstinence, fidelity and healthy lifestyles.
