Zimbabwe American Development Foundation

Zimbabwe American Development Foundation Donor/s (ZADF)

Name: Zimbabwe American Development Foundation Donor/s (ZADF)
Duration: September 1998 - September 2008
Donor: United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

Throughout the 1990s a wide spectrum of civil society organizations in Zimbabwe emerged as a strong public voice for the aspirations of citizens. However, these organizations had little experience and weak capacity in turning advocacy efforts into policy change. In 1998 the Zimbabwe American Development Foundation (ZADF) was launched to strengthen their advocacy capacity. Our approach builds organizational capacity through a combination of grant making, training and mentoring. We also provide technical assistance to participating organizations in the areas of financial management, organizational development, and program monitoring and evaluation. Our technical assistance includes:

  • Establishing a sound constituency base
  • Analyzing public policy to develop alternatives
  • Developing coalitions for advocacy and mobilizing public support for specific advocacy objectives
  • Attending to the gender-specific dimensions of advocacy
  • Following-up on specific legislative enactments
