On July 22-26, 2024, ACHIEVE joined the global HIV community of people living with, affected by, and working on HIV during the 25th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024) in Munich, Germany. During the conference, colleagues from ACHIEVE Tanzania and ACHIEVE South Sudan shared innovations, lessons, and results in HIV programming through abstracts presented as posters during the conference’s in-person poster exhibition.

The following posters were presented:

Unveiling Success: a Case Study of the Influence of the Integrated Food Innovation Intervention on the Well-Being of 13 HIV-Positive Children with High Viral Load in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania” examined nutritional interventions aimed at improving antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence and overall health outcomes among children and adolescents living with HIV (C/ALHIV).

The Influence of Community-based Interventions on Multi-month Dispensing of ART in Children and Adolescents Living with HIV” explored how multi-month dispensing (MMD) of ART for C/ALHIV receiving treatment is an essential strategy to improve medication adherence, reduce healthcare facility visits, and optimize health outcomes.

Viral Rebound among HIV Positive Children and Adolescents on Antiretroviral Therapy: a Longitudinal Study in Tanzania” provided insights on a study focused on evidence-based strategies to mitigate viral rebound for sustained viral suppression for the holistic well-being of CLHIV.

Community Services Support Children and Adolescents Living with HIV Enrolled in an Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project Achieve Viral Suppression in South Sudan” shared lessons learned from ACHIEVE South Sudan’s collaboration with South Sudan’s Ministry of Health (MOH) to provide community-based services to CALHIV and their families.

Integration of HIV, Family Planning (FP), and Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Youth-Friendly Services to Improve Service Uptake and Completion Amongst Adolescent Girls and Young Women in South Sudan” looked at ACHIEVE South Sudan’s Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe (DREAMS) implementation that includes a comprehensive layer of services focused on social and clinical service delivery, responses to gender-based violence, and economic strengthening activities.

These presentations highlight ACHIEVE’s commitment in the global effort to use evidence-based interventions to reach and sustain HIV epidemic control among vulnerable communities, so that they may reach viral suppression, which in turn allows them to live healthy productive lives.
