Pact is working in Laos to ensure socially and environmentally responsible development as the country grows.

In 2013, we began the Mekong Partnership for the Environment, a USAID-funded initiative based in Bangkok that advanced socially and environmentally responsible development across the Lower Mekong region, including Laos. With the Lower Mekong projected to receive billions of dollars in infrastructure investments in the coming years, MPE brought together governments, civil society and the private sector to support sustainable development.

This work continues with the Lower Mekong Initiative, which serves as a platform to address transnational development challenges. The project is strengthening the ability of Lower Mekong governments to understand and manage shared natural resources, improve joint planning and coordination and deploy new technologies, approaches and methodologies for sustainable development, natural resource conservation and climate change.
