Basanta Pokharel has been Pact Nepal’s Country Director since 2018. He is an international development expert with more than 25 years of progressively responsible work experience implementing governance, citizen engagement, gender, human rights and public policy programming in Nepal, Mongolia and Vietnam. He has served for more than 12 years as a senior manager for complex, donor-funded governance projects – including assignments as Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party. He spearheaded the USAID-funded Sajhedari Bikaas project in Nepal from 2014 to 2018. He uses adaptive management approaches to address development challenges, including immediately after government elections and restructuring, as well as after the 2015 Nepal earthquakes. He has published and presented research on numerous topics related to governance, social exclusion, corruption and fragile states.
