Jean-Claude Nshimiyimana

Energy Expert, Illuminating Small-Scale Mining in Rwanda project


In addition to STEM educational background, Jean Claude Nshimiyimana earned a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Mahatma Gandhi University in India. For over a decade, he taught Mathematics and Physics but also contributing to various energy and environmental health intervention programs. Prior joining ISMR, Jean Claude led Rwanda market assessment for the USAID funded project "Bicycles for Growth" of J.E. Austin Associates Inc. He worked on “Renewable Energy for Refugees (RE4R)” of Practical Action in partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and “Humanitarian Engineering and Energy for Displacement (HEED)” of Coventry University in partnership with Practical Action both implemented in different refugee’s camps of Rwanda, Nepal and Jordan. He also worked on DelAgua’s “Live Well” program implemented to facilitate Rwanda's rural poor households to access improved cookstoves and funded through the sale of carbon credits gained by offsetting household's carbon emissions. Jean Claude uses some of his spare time to volunteering with international organizations like the New York Academy of Sciences where he volunteered as a STEM mentor. Jean-Claude speaks English, French and Kinyarwanda.
