Advancing Community Empowerment

The Advancing Community Empowerment in Southeastern Myanmar project, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Burma, works with communities to bolster their ownership, capacity and action to meet the needs of the most vulnerable; broaden participation for more inclusive decision making; and strengthen mechanisms for more responsive and accountable local governance. Pact is implementing Advancing Community Empowerment in partnership with Community Partners International, Mercy Corps and Save the Children. The five-year project also partners with a broad range of local and regional organizations, service providers and actors to address community development priorities. 

Essential Health

Country: Myanmar

Essential Health is a five-year project working in four townships to improve maternal and child health outcomes by increasing the availability and quality of equitable health services for Myanmar's poor and vulnerable populations. The project is supporting these communities to effectively demand such services, strengthening health system governance and improving the efficient delivery of health services by public and private service providers at the township level and below. Pact is implementing this project with Jhpiego. 

Social Accountability in the Health Sector

Country: Nepal

The Social Accountability in the Health Sector (SAHS) Programme aims to improve citizen engagement to improve accountability in health sector in Nepal. SAHS focuses on collaborating with civil society groups, national policy actors, and government health institutions to understand the challenges and deepen social accountability efforts in the health sector. Through the recommendations from situational analyses, applied political economy analyses and multi-stakeholder dialogue, key health sector actors will be able to implement more effective social accountability initiatives. The project ultimately contributes to Nepal’s National Health Sector Programme III, which is designed to improve health services in Nepal, particularly for the socially excluded groups.

Accelerating Stunting Reduction in Songwe Region

This four-year project targets Tanzania's Songwe region, where poor hygiene and child malnutrition are especially rampant. Pact is addressing root causes of stunting in infants and young children with a Social and Behavior Change Communication strategy focused on the individual, interpersonal and community levels. Community health workers are educating pregnant women and mothers of young children on topics including hygiene and sanitation, maternal nutrition and early childhood development. Pact is also sensitizing influential family members and local leaders on the importance of childhood nutrition to create an enabling environment.

Community HIV Prevention Program

Country: Zambia
Funder: USAID

This project is working to reduce new HIV infections in Zambia. Focusing on high-risk groups, Pact is using radio, television and other kinds of outreach and education to boost HIV awareness, change risky behavior and increase the use of HIV services. The project works closely with local Zambian organizations and institutions, building their capacity to plan, implement and monitor their own quality programs to stop the spread of HIV.

Government Capacity Building Support

Pact is helping to build the capacity of South Africa's Department of Social Development to better support orphans and vulnerable children, including those affected by abuse, neglect or exploitation. Specifically, the project is strengthening the department's response to tuberculosis, HIV and other diseases among vulnerable children.

Multi-Sectoral Response to TB/HIV

This project is identifying people with HIV/AIDS to promote treatment. It is also raising awareness and providing education about the disease.

Linkages Across the Continuum of HIV Services for Key Populations Affected by HIV (LINKAGES)

Funder: The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/ USAID

LINKAGES is PEPFAR and USAID’s first global HIV/AIDS project dedicated to key populations (sex workers, men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs and transgender people) and their sexual partners. LINKAGES accelerates the ability of partner governments, civil society organizations and private-sector providers to plan and deliver HIV prevention services, as well as services to improve enrollment and retention care for those who are HIV-positive. As a core partner in a consortium of international organizations, Pact works to develop the capacity of community-based organizations and civil society organizations and networks serving key populations in several countries.
