Investing in early childhood development in Kayin State

January 24, 2020

To commemorate International Day of Education, celebrated January 24, Pact Myanmar is showcasing Burma Medical Association (BMA), one of the Responsive Health, Education and Livelihoods Services (RHELS) grants from the Advancing Community Empowerment (ACE) project, supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Since May 2019, BMA has been implementing a two-year grant aiming to improve the health and early childhood development of approximately 4,800 school children in hard-to-reach and underserved ethnic areas from 40 schools in five townships of Kayin State.

The 2020 theme for International Day of Education is ‘Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace,’ highlighting the integrated nature of education; and how education is also a powerful catalyst  – for combating poverty and inequality, improving health and well-being and overcoming discrimination. Learn more in this short video highlighting how students in Kayin State in Southeastern Myanmar are accessing better quality and coverage of school health care.
