Africa
Africa is the second most populous continent, home to some of the world’s fastest growing economies. Yet communities across Africa face complex social challenges, from the ongoing HIV epidemic and fragile health care systems to conflict and natural resource exploitation.
In partnership with governments, local organizations and communities, Pact has addressed all of these challenges while fostering resilience. We bring decades of experience working in Africa and vast local knowledge. Many of our staff are serving their own communities.
Across the continent, we’ve worked with key groups such as children, adolescents, and pregnant and breastfeeding women to access HIV testing, treatment and prevention services. In the Horn of Africa as well as in the Democratic Republic of Congo, we’ve supported communities to overcome cross-border conflict and create lasting peace. In the Great Lakes region and beyond, we’ve partnered with artisanal and small-scale mining communities to make the ASM sector – a critical livelihood for millions – safer, formalized and more productive. Pact has helped to markedly reduce child labor in mining communities, and we implemented the only mineral traceability due diligence program with standards independently confirmed to be 100 percent aligned with OECD Due Diligence Guidance on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains. In Malawi and Madagascar, we have worked alongside communities to protect the environment for lasting prosperity.
All of our programming in Africa focuses on building local capacity to address social challenges for sustainable improvement.
