Thierry Uwamahoro

Thierry Uwamahoro leads a portfolio of media and information integrity programs and has more than 15 years of experience in democracy and governance (DG), governance for health and public-private partnerships. Working with leading DG organizations, he designed and implemented programs focused on strengthening media, civil society, legislatures, political parties, election management bodies and health systems; information integrity; constitutional reforms; inclusion; access to justice; fiscal transparency and anti-corruption. Prior to joining Pact, Thierry led the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES)’s Francophone Africa portfolio. He expanded IFES’ programming in Burkina Faso, DRC, Guinea, Mali and Niger by leveraging rapid and flexible response activities’ successes to secure longer-term governance programs in complex security and political transition contexts. Prior to IFES, Thierry served as a Senior Program Manager for Partners Global’s security sector reform and access to justice programs in Guinea and Nigeria. As a Program Manager for Anglophone West Africa with the International Republican Institute, he oversaw a portfolio of democracy and freedom promotion programs across the sub-region. As a Senior Program Officer with the National Democratic Institute and, later, Counterpart International, he managed implementation of democracy and social accountability programs in Burundi, DRC, Malawi and Zambia. Thierry is an online YALI instructor and a guest lecturer at both the Johns Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies and the Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute. He has served as a columnist or commentator for the Mail & Guardian, Voice of America, Aljazeera, Washington Post and New York Times, among other major media organizations. He holds a master’s degree in international development from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Computer Information Systems from La Roche University.
