IDAHOT: Let’s celebrate diversity
Today marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), a day marked around the world to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) people. Here at Pact, we are committed to equality and anti-discrimination. These are part of our organizational values and encoded in our Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy.
Staff in our Yangon, Loikaw, Hpa-An and Mawlamyine offices commemorated this day with some photos showing their support for LGBTIQ people. You can see these photos on our Facebook page, Pact in Myanmar.
The date of May 17 is the anniversary of the World Health Organization’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. In Myanmar, homosexuality is still illegal, so our support for LGBTIQ people is all the more important.
