Tanzania

Since 2001, Pact has worked in Tanzania to transform the lives of people, organizations, government agencies, and communities, namely in the areas of health and HIV. Through our capacity development approach, we empower local communities to advocate for their needs and strengthen government institutions to become more effective, accountable, and responsive. We believe in the power of data, evidence, and the agency of communities to define and build their own future.

With funding from USAID, Pact has implemented orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) programming in Tanzania for nearly two decades, including the Pamoja Tuwalee project and the Kizazi Kipya project. Both efforts significantly improved HIV testing, treatment, and prevention among OVC and their caregivers. The Kizazi Kipya project alone positively impacted the lives of more than 1.7 million Tanzanian children by using a case-management approach to connect OVC and their caregivers with vital services, improving their health and socioeconomic well-being.

Pact's commitment to combating HIV and AIDS in Tanzania continues today through the ACHIEVE project, which focuses on reaching and sustaining HIV epidemic control among pregnant and breastfeeding women, adolescents, infants, and children. Our ongoing efforts aim to ensure that these groups receive the care and support they need for a healthier future.

Our work in Tanzania has played a vital role in strengthening the country's development by focusing on human capital. By addressing childhood stunting caused by malnutrition, we ensure that children grow up healthier and stronger. In addition to tackling malnutrition, we provide opportunities for early childhood development. This means creating environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive during their crucial early years.

Pact also works with artisanal and small-scale gemstone miners in Tanzania, helping them to gain critical knowledge about rough gems, improve occupational health and safety, and access markets to earn fair prices for their gemstones.

Pact has also made significant strides in increasing energy access and sustainability in Tanzania. We provide renewable energy solutions to underserved communities, helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote environmental sustainability.
