Necessity, challenges and opportunities for integration of large scale mining and artisanal and small-scale mining in Zimbabwe
February 24, 2020
Mining
This study is part of the interventions recommended by Pact for Phase 3 of the Zimbabwe Accountability and Artisanal Mining Program (ZAAMP). The intervention is the first component of the Business and Economic Development theme focused on ASM-LSM collaboration. The scope of the study goes beyond gold mining to include other minerals exploited by small-scale miners in Zimbabwe. Major themes explored focus on the existing challenges and opportunities related to the interaction of small scale and large scale miners. Zimbabwe has set a target of formalizing 100,000 miners (Pact & The Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe, 2015) and this study forms a significant part of that goal.
