Mining, Business & markets
Getting data right is key to ensure that interventions to improve the lives of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) communities are well designed and provide the intended impact. Pact is partnering with Trafigura and the Entreprise Générale du Cobalt (EGC), whose role is to purchase and process ASM cobalt in the DRC, to support the formalization of the ASM sector. This socio-economic baseline study was commissioned by EGC’s Technical Committee to Pole Institute. Its aim is to provide a current description of the working conditions and impact of mining in the site of Kasulo (Lualaba province, DRC), which will be EGC’s project first site. Data collection will take place during the project implementation using this initial baseline to strengthen project evaluation.
