Pact’s Karen Hayes celebrated in 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining publication

Pact’s Karen Hayes, Vice President of Energy, Environment and Extractives, has recently been selected as one of 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining by Women in Mining U.K. The biennial global publication celebrates the “above and beyond” contributions of women to the global mining industry, across all roles, seniority and jurisdictions. 

"Karen has been an amazing mentor to me, staff across Pact and our partners who work with us. She's behind so many of the innovations and breakthroughs in responsible sourcing that Pact has put forward over the years. I'm so pleased that she's being recognized for the trailblazer that she is," said Cristina Villegas, director of Pact's Mines to Markets program.

An internationally recognized expert on artisanal and small-scale mining, Hayes’ experience includes both technical field work and strategic analysis of social development, conflict, economics and responsible practices in the mining sector and mineral supply chains.

This year, Women in Mining U.K. received, 1,100 nominations for 626 women from all over the world, which is the highest number of nominations and number of women nominated since the publication launched in 2013. The successful nominees were chosen based on three criteria: 

  1. She is a trailblazer, making positive and impactful changes so the industry can operate in a more successful, responsible, sustainable and inclusive way. 
  2. She advocates and empowers, demonstrating leadership and offering proactive advocacy to those working in the mining industry and beyond. 
  3. She perseveres in the face of adversity, finding solutions to challenges and expressing resiliency and determination.
