Beyond passion: Teachers increase access to education in rural Myanmar

January 23, 2019

Kayan New Generation Youth (KNGY), a Critical Service Grant recipient under the Advancing Community Empowerment project, is mobilizing and training volunteer teachers for rural schools serving vulnerable communities in nine townships throughout Kayah, Shan and Kayin States.

Currently with the grant, KNGY has trained volunteer teachers on a new advanced training module as part of the Summer Vocational Training program. Of the trained volunteer teachers, 49 teachers have been sent to respective communities in nine townships as volunteer teachers with support of a stipend.

To date under the ACE project, supported by USAID, a total of eight Critical Service Grants are helping to reduce community vulnerabilities in southeastern Myanmar.
