Children Out of Mining

June 11, 2018

Since 2003, Pact has used its integrated approach to development to target the complex root causes of child labor in artisanal and small-scale mining. Spanning continents and minerals – including tin, tantalum, tungsten, copper, cobalt, coal and gold – Pact’s programming and its results show there are solutions to child labor. This includes our efforts in Manono, DRC, where Pact’s Watoto Inje ya Mungoti project has helped to achieve a more than 90 percent reduction in child labor at targeted mine sites. Filmed in April 2018, Children Out of Mining reveals on-the-ground evidence of progress in the fight against child labor in Manono, a region that relies heavily on artisanal and small-scale mining. Children Out of Mining shares this story in the children’s own voices, and was made possible through the active engagement of industry leaders including Microsoft, Google and Qualcomm, among others.
