DREAMS in Zambia: Grace's story

April 23, 2020

Grace Njobvu, 22, was raised by her grandparents. After high school, she moved in with her aunt and her aunt’s husband. Her aunt’s husband soon began sexually abusing her. She tried to move back to her grandparent’s house but couldn’t, so she fled to her boyfriend’s. When she became pregnant, he kicked her out. Grace's life began to turn around when she found the HIV-prevention program DREAMS. Through DREAMS, she accessed counseling to help her deal with depression and trauma from the abuse she experienced. She learned about safe sex, HIV and pregnancy prevention, and attended computer literacy training. Today, Grace is HIV-free and helping other young women in Zambia stay healthy, safe and independent.
