Universal Health Coverage Day: Keeping the promise of health for all

Universal Health Coverage Day: Keeping the promise of health for all

Daw Mya Htay and her four children live in Nga Yant Daing, a remote rural village from the Ayeyarwady delta region. Famous for its fertile lands, this place was once known as the “rice bowl of Asia.” However, that is a distant past for Daw Mya Htay, who often struggles to earn a living by fishing and baking bricks. Despite the hardship, she proudly beams with her youngest treasure, a five-month-old baby girl.

Daw Mya Htay epitomizes this year’s theme for International Universal Health Coverage Day – “Keep the Promise of health for all.” The Essential Health project, funded by USAID and implemented by Pact as part of a consortium led by Jhpiego, commemorates International Universal Health Coverage Day on December 12, with this glimpse into her life.
