Ukraine

Pact has long supported Ukraine in some of its most critical struggles — for democracy, for improved health and wellbeing for all Ukrainians, and for women’s rights. Since Russia’s unprovoked invasion, our commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Ukraine has only strengthened. Learn more below.

Ukraine’s need for international support has never been greater, and Pact and our partners are dedicated to helping communities here to cope amid the many hardships of war.

Since 2008, Pact has supported local pro-reform civil society organizations working to promote government transparency and accountability and civic involvement. These civil society partners played a role in key national reforms, and today, they continue to serve the country in critical ways.

With funding from Global Affairs Canada, Pact advanced the rights of women and girls in Ukraine. We built the capacity of women’s rights organizations, supporting advocacy campaigns and promoting inclusion of the women’s movement into a broader reform agenda and national development processes. Pact has also helped rural and marginalized women to improve their economic security by enabling their success as employees and entrepreneurs.

Pact is also accelerating efforts to achieve HIV epidemic control in Ukraine by 2030, through improved prevention, testing, and linkages to care among priority populations. Pact and our partners are helping people living with HIV to learn their status and get appropriate HIV care, even amid the challenges of war.

Pact's work has also helped Ukraine to strengthen its capacity to respond to public health shocks, sustain critical public health services during crisis, and expand mental health support to veterans and conflict-affected populations. Our work has addressed public health challenges resulting from the war, including humanitarian health needs, increased demand for community-based mental health services, and continuity of care for displaced and mobile populations.
