Latin America and Caribbean
Building on our long history in the region – from labor justice work in El Salvador to HIV programming in Brazil – today Pact’s footprint reaches across South America and beyond.
Much of our work has focused on improving lives in areas that depend on artisanal and small-scale mining for their livelihoods, particularly in Colombia. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, we have helped to decrease child labor in mining communities where we’ve worked.
Our newest efforts focus on protecting the rights of workers, women, migrants and indigenous communities. In partnership with USAID and local organizations, we are working to prevent and respond to human rights violations in Colombia among Venezuelan migrants, Colombian returnees and receptor communities. Across the Amazon, from Ecuador to Brazil, Pact is supporting Indigenous people to increase their influence in the region’s governance in order to protect the environment and indigenous rights.
In the Dominican Republic, Pact is working to reach and sustain HIV epidemic control among pregnant and breastfeeding women, adolescents, infants and children.
