To combat HIV in South Africa, Pact has strengthened the capacity of local organizations and government agencies that provide testing, treatment, and prevention services. With funding from the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, Pact has facilitated the effective flow of funds to partners, dramatically increasing the scope, scale, and quality of services they offer across South Africa, with several of our partners “graduating” to direct funding from the U.S. government.
Pact recently helped to build the capacity of South Africa's Department of Social Development to better support orphans and vulnerable children, including those affected by abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Specifically, our efforts strengthened the department's response to HIV. Through the ACHIEVE project, we are working to reach and sustain HIV epidemic control among pregnant and breastfeeding women, adolescents, infants, and children in South Africa.
