Tackling modern slavery in DRC-UK mineral supply chains to deliver on the green industrial revolution
April 13, 2021
In March, over 40 stakeholders participated in an online workshop to hear from industry experts across three panel discussions about why moving beyond compliance to implement practical solutions directly with artisanal mining communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is key to tackling modern slavery and can also generate shared business and social benefits.
Hosted by the British Ambassador to the DRC Her Excellency Ms. Emily Maltman, in partnership with the international NGO Pact UK, the workshop aimed to increase understanding of the challenges, existing legislation, and practical examples of how industry can help secure future clean and green energy supply chains. The UK workshop was accompanied by parallel discussions with stakeholders in Kinshasa hosted by His Excellency the Minister of Mines, Professor Willy Kitobo Samsoni.
