Mali
In Mali, Pact has worked to make artisanal and small-scale mining safer and more productive, mainly by reducing mercury use in gold mining. Explore more below.
In Mali, Pact and our partners worked to improve the small-scale gold sector, primarily by reducing mercury use in gold mining. Mercury is extremely hazardous to human health and the environment. We supported the introduction of new methods for gold extraction that make the process safer and more productive. We also strengthened supply chains in Mali's small-scale gold mining sector, working with miners, investors, and gold traders interested in adopting mercury-free business models.
